START at The Gallery
First Sunday of the month, 12noon-3pm
The Art Gallery of South Australia offers an exciting introduction to visual art for children
and families through START at the Gallery. Held on the first Sunday of every month, the free START
program includes art and craft activities, tours, trails, live music and entertainment.
Suitable for ages 5-10 years. Parent / carer supervision required.
Cost: Free (no bookings required).

exhibitions for the specially discounted price of a single adult ticket.
Soundscapes
First Sunday of every month, 2pm
Enjoy classical and modern performances by invited guest performers and students from the
Elder Conservatorium of Music, one of Australia’s most distinguished specialist music institutions.

See some of our best and most popular works of art and learn some cool things along the way
in this self-guided trail for families.

Small Talk
Daily, 10am-5pm
Take a fun tour and explore our collection through the eyes of children. Look for
the brightly coloured Small Talk labels dotted throughout the Gallery to find out what our youngest
visitors think of the works on display.
The Balnaves Foundation is a private philanthropic organisation established to
provide support to charitable enterprises across Australia. The Foundation supports eligible
organisations that aim to create a better Australia through education, medicine and the arts, with
a focus on young people, the disadvantaged, and Indigenous communities.
Guided Tours for Children
Begin your lifelong journey in the amazing world of visual art. The free START
children’s tours are presented on the first and third Sundays of the month and are a great way to
introduce your children to the magic and mystery of the visual arts. See above to
view our START at the Gallery program with tour details. But if you miss the big
days, tours are repeated at 2pm on the third Sunday of the month (February–November).
Cost: Free. Bookings not required.

Holiday Art & Craft Program:
Building Blocks – Make a Collograph
Tuesday 5 – Friday 8 October , 10.30am, 12noon & 1.30pm
Imagine yourself in the middle of an old city, or next to the entrance of an ancient castle.
From where you stand, what can you see? Design a picture with an illusion of space using
cut-out shapes and mixed media, from which rubbings can be made. Suitable for ages 5–10
years.
Cost is $5 per child, payable on arrival. All materials supplied. Children must be
accompanied by an adult/carer at all times.
